Here are three tools that you can use when you are traveling. They are based around images and how you use the Facebook information you have on your account. They make it easier to synchronize your Facebook information with that on your phone or your computer. The tools are here to help you share your images whilst you are on holiday, and some of them even allow you to choose when it synchronizes, so that you do not have to pay extra overseas Internet charges.
This is a free iPhone app that you can use to assign your friends to the pictures you just took. It allows you to use your Facebook friends as your contacts, which are then tagged on your images. If you upload them, then you can even have the app tell your friends that they have just been tagged on your photos. If you are going on holiday, then it may be fun to tag the people you are going with on your photos.
Photo Phonebook will also allow you to do the same thing, and it is also free on the iPhone. You can even do fun stuff such as tagging a donkey as one of your friends on Facebook. The apps will automatically match and synchronize with Facebook. You can even set these apps so that when you get a call on your phone, their most recently tagged photo will appear. If you don’t like that, then you can choose which of their Facebook photos comes up when you are called by them.
Vringo also gives the user a much greater control over the whole synchronization process, which means that you do not have to pay roaming charges if you are out of the country. You can simply synchronize your phone and your Facebook account when you get home.
With Photo Phonebook you may find that some people become attached with pictures in your phone book, even if it is not the right person. But, not all apps are perfect, and you should expect a bug or two in the best of them. Just like how you may find that if the photos are overused or stretched that they lose a lot of their quality.
2 – FriendSync
Just like taking a bite out of a watermelon, this is a mouthful. It is an iPhone app that you can use to synchronize your profile pics on your Facebook page with your holiday snaps on your iPhone. It has a lot of image customization tools and functions that allow you to alter images and also to change who they are assigned to and other such Facebook functions that you are probably used to by now.
You can manually adjust how the images are synchronized from your phone to your Facebook account. You can even customize how big the image is that comes up when you are called. You can pull an image from Facebook, or you can use one from your phone. You assign it to a caller, but you get to decide how big the image is when it pops up. This app has been noted as being rather slow at times, as many reviewers will attest, so it is up to you, as some people do not mind a bit of lag.
3 – Fonebook
This tool does almost the same thing as the two tools listed above. You could always try the tool Fonebook on your PC or FacebookSync on your Mac if you want the same functions but do not have an iPhone. If you have Outlook or a Mac Address book contacts, then you can do the whole thing with the images and the contacts that you can do with the iPhone with the tools listed above. If you are using a computer and you are not in your home (i.e. you are traveling), then you can use these tools to tag where you are and can start uploading images of where you are.
AddressBookSync and FacebookSync also do what the Fonebook tools do, but they try to go a little further and offer more customization. This may or may not be a good thing, as they do seem to keep getting in trouble with the people at Facebook for breaching their Facebook’s Terms of Use. The problem that most of these tools face is that Facebook does not want you syncing phone numbers or addresses with any sort of outside tool.
It is a nice idea, but the fact is that it happens anyway. The fact is that if you are on Facebook then your details are open to the world, whether you want them to be or not. At least the tools on this article are trying to do it so that it is easier when you are traveling, as opposed to using their powers to help people spam you via phone calls and email.
