The rich usually spend their money on high-end statement pieces such as jewelry, designer clothes, shoes, and watches. The intention is always to show off to their peers and every acquisition is usually accompanied by social media posts accompanied by some weird hashtag. The super-rich, however, value experiences more thantangible items. This is because they probably have everything that money can buy and tangible items, no matter how expensive, no longer appeal to them. They are after experiences that are personal in nature and those that appeal to their individual self. This preference extends to their holiday and vacation choices. Yachts and 5-star hotels are so yesterday and the super-rich would gladly shun them for emotionally appealing experiences. Here are some of the things that the super-rich want from their holiday nowadays.
- Luxe-peditions.
These include luxurious and high octane expeditions to remote and far-flung regions of the earth that most people would find inhabitable. The Antarctica is one the most inhabitable regions on earth but its popularity with super-rich as a holiday destination is growing with each passing day. The inhumane conditions of the north make for great soul searching and a humbling experience that allows them to experience life away from their super-rich bubble. Some of the activities that activities that the super-rich can engage in include snowmobiling, kite-skiing and competing in the Antarctic marathon. The living quarters when the super-rich visit these places are usually pampered with modern day luxuries that the rich are usually accustomed to. Other luxe-pedition locations include the active volcanos of Indonesia and the ice caves in Afghanistan. Such luxe-peditions are usually quite relaxing and a great way to take a break from the daily hustles of the city and corporate life.
- Exploratory travel.
They said that curiosity killed the cat but curiosity is now one of the major reasons that inform holiday destinations for the super-rich. If you’ve been wondering what happened to the remains of the Titanic, well you can take a “Dive the Titanic” exploratory tour down the Pacific. Another option would be to fly across the Galapagos Rift deep in Russia to explore the thermal vents within the landscape. Most planes hardly have routes to some of these regions and your best bet for exploration would be private jet charters. The cost of such expeditions can reach the million dollar mark but for the super-rich, this is just a drop in the ocean. Private safaris are cliché nowadays and exploratory travel is now the in thing.
- Mind blowing cultural experiences.
This is another deviation from the norm that the super-rich are seeking to achieve from their vacations. The super-rich are increasingly looking to experience different cultures other than their own when holidaying. We all know that the super-rich are domineering and competitive in nature and most have “experience a new culture” as part of their bucket list. They, therefore, organize trips to Africa or nations with foreign cultures and live among the locals. Local travel companies can organize for the super-rich to spend time with a family within the community for a period of time. The super-rich take part in the local activities such as tilling the land, meal preparation and take part in local ceremonies. One week with the locals and the super-rich would have picked up a few vocabularies and learned different cultural practices that they would aid in their quest to become global citizens. Sounds interesting, isn’t it? Well, these are some of the things that the super-rich get up to when they are not signing million dollar contracts in their offices.
- Home away from home.
We all know that the super-rich have weird tendencies, well they also extend those weird tendencies when they are holidaying. Some would even take their favorite chefs and other house helps with them when they head for vacations with their families. Some would even have their entire IT infrastructure in their vacation spots reconfigured so as to make them safe and secure. Others would even insist on having their home beds shipped to their holiday destinations in advance of their travels. Sound weird right? Well, the super-rich are weird people and their behaviors are weird as well.
